Graduation Photoshoot at Texas A&M: Tips for Awesome Pics

If you're on the hunt for the perfect place to snap your graduation photos at Texas A&M, you've come to the right place! As a wedding and event videography business in College Station, we know how important it is to capture these big moments in the best way possible. Whether you're planning a graduation photoshoot, engagement session, or wedding video, picking the right location and timing is key.

My Graduation Photoshoot Experience

I recently had my own graduation photoshoot at Texas A&M, and it was such a blast! My husband took the photos, and we even attempted to include our son—though, as any parent knows, getting a little one to pose is easier said than done. We managed to get one lucky shot!

Best Spots for Graduation Photos at Texas A&M

Leach Teaching Gardens in November

We chose to take our graduation photos at the Leach Teaching Gardens, which made perfect sense since my PhD is in horticulture. If you're looking for a great spot for your own photos, this garden is a solid choice with:

  • Gorgeous vineyard rows for a classic and timeless vibe

  • A cozy alcove with a fountain on the south side of the garden

  • Festive seasonal decor, like the Christmas lights that go up in early November, making for a dreamy backdrop

While we loved the Leach Teaching Gardens, another go-to spot is the Academic Building. But heads up—this place gets packed at the end of the semester! Parking is a nightmare, and there's usually a line of grads waiting to take pictures on the staircase. If you want to dodge the crowds, aim for a shoot at least a month before graduation.

Pro Tips for Your Graduation Photoshoot

  1. Plan Ahead: To skip the crowds, schedule your shoot early in the morning or at least 5 weeks before graduation.

  2. Pick a Meaningful Spot: Whether it's the Leach Teaching Gardens, the Century Tree, or Kyle Field, choose a location that means something to you.

  3. Chase the Light: Golden hour is the best but be aware that you should automatically assume you need an extra hour before golden hour. The peak golden hour time is about 45 minutes before the official sunset time for that day. (The weather app on an iPhone gives the exact time for your location)

  4. Dress to Impress: Wear the outfit you want to take photos in before you drive to campus. Some people try and change when they get there but that really just wastes time.
